“Non-normativity” is an experimental performance piece inspired by Brecht’s poem “The Quest for Forgiveness III.” It explores themes of suffering and forgiveness by subverting traditional spatial arrangements. The performance integrates spatial installations, contemporary dance, string music, and experimental vocals to create a transformative healing experience. In the collision of softness and hardness, the dancers’ souls resonate with the audience beyond the barriers of language, while the singer, as a narrator, conveys the timeless power and emotion.

My work consists of three acts. In the first act, I used extensive recordings of soprano voices, combining her recorded chanting with live singing to create a sense of overlapping time and space. The atmosphere rendered by my music aims to blur the line between dream and reality.
In Act 2, a war scene is depicted using the Fibonacci sequence and war drum sounds. I composed a percussion ensemble as a mathematical homage to Le Corbusier, to be performed at Le Corbusier in Marseille. A particularly challenging aspect of this part is expanding the coloratura soprano section based on the pre-composed string quartet “Undercurrent.” This is a challenge for both me and the soprano, but her presence amplifies the intense feeling of internal struggle and undercurrent tension.
Act 3 is a reconciliation movement. It builds on a pre-composed harp melody, incorporating the coloratura soprano. The violin, representing the spirit of the story, is encouraged by the soprano to bravely play its melody. The entire section reaches a climax and gradually transitions to a serene “space electronic” ending, envisioning everyone lying on clouds and gazing at the stars.
